THE IMAGES OF PAST AS IMAGES FOR THE FUTURE

(Artist Talk on the politics of archive, experimental methods and the
filmmaker)

In their talk and films screening artist duo Doplgenger will observe
experimental filmmaking methods and appropriation of images. Simultaneously
re-reading their own work and the work of media machinery, the artists
would point at the deconstruction of media narrative and the impact this
language has on a viewer. Highlighted would be the complications of
remembering, representing and voicing distant histories through media
images. At last, Doplgenger would question the political implications of
such procedures and the responsibility of filmmaker/artist.

Doplgenger is an artist duo Isidora Ilić and Boško Prostran, film/video
artists from Belgrade (ex-Yugoslavia).

The work of Doplgenger deals with
relation between art and politics through exploring the regimes of moving
images and modes of its reception. They deconstruct the film medium,
language, structure and notions of text in order to discover the ways in
which art/moving images participate in creating political reality. In 2009
Doplgenger initiated Transimage, a platform for the politics of moving
images, aiming to explore and understand key elements in constituting the
image - space beyond/across it such as ideology, technology, cultural and
sociopolitical context, and history. Besides organizing many lectures and
film screenings, Doplgenger participated in numerous international film and
video festivals and exhibitions, received awards and has been funded with
 AIR Programs.
